News release · For immediate release
BURLINGTON, May 1, 2026
Ward 3 City and Regional Councillor Rory Nisan registered his candidacy for Mayor for Burlington this morning. Burlington City Hall needs a change now to deliver what our residents deserve: affordability, fiscal responsibility and quality of life.
Over the past eight years on Council, Nisan has earned a reputation as a disciplined leader focused on value for tax dollars and improving quality of life for Burlington’s residents, while consistently advocating for stronger financial management, transparency and accountability at City Hall. He has worked closely with all levels of government and currently serves as Chair of the Conservation Halton Foundation and Chair of the Ontario Caucus of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities.
Nisan said his campaign will address what residents need in this affordability crisis and beyond, with a new and improved approach to the city’s finances, restoring fiscal discipline at City Hall while making targeted investments.
“Families in Burlington are feeling the squeeze, from housing costs to groceries to gas,” said Nisan. “The decisions we make at City Hall matter more than ever. We can’t make any more bad choices with our residents’ money. It’s time people saw their tax dollars making a difference in their lives.”
“Burlington still holds incredible promise,” he said. “But for too many people, that promise is out of reach right now. I’m running for Mayor to bring a more disciplined, practical approach to decision-making – one that respects taxpayers, supports working families and seniors, and partners with our residents so they can get ahead. Burlington should be a city where your community supports you, where and you can afford to build a life for yourself and your family, and where you can succeed if you work hard,” he said.
Nisan’s official campaign launch will take place later in May, and all are welcome to join the team. The election is October 26, 2026.
