Short bio

Rory Nisan is a Burlington community leader running for Mayor in the 2026 municipal election. He is campaigning on accountability, affordability, and neighbourhood strength — with a commitment to disciplined budgeting and City Hall that delivers services residents can count on. Long bio

Rory Nisan was first elected in 2018 as the Councillor for Ward 3 in Burlington. He has chaired two budget committees, as well as the Corporate Services, Strategy, Risk and Accountability Committee, and numerous Committees of the Whole. He is Chair of the Conservation Halton Foundation, Chair of the Ontario Caucus of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities, and Chair of the Governance and Risk Committee of Conservation Halton.

Prior to joining City Council to pursue his passion for his community, Nisan was a career foreign service officer, serving Canada. Among several other roles, he negotiated human rights resolutions at the United Nations and was responsible for strategic communications at Canada's delegation to NATO.

Nisan grew up in Burlington's Brant Hills neighbourhood and attended Lester B. Pearson High School. He holds an Honours Bachelor's Degree in Political Science from Wilfrid Laurier University and a Master's Degree in Arts (International Affairs) from Carleton University. He also holds a Chartered Director (C.Dir) credential from McMaster University's DeGroote School of Business. He is a proud husband and father.
